I've been thinking of writing a blog for a while, but never got around to it, there wasn't much of interest to motivate me to write. But a couple months ago, I finally got my act together and planned a trip to London. Couldn't think of a better reason to start this. I can use it as a journal of what I've been doing, and also to keep in touch with everyone.
So it's about 2 weeks until I go and I have so much to do. I need get together a general plan for what I'm going to do each day -- make sure that what I want to see is open when I plan on going to see it!
I'm going to hit the outdoor markets when I get there on Saturday, and the big department stores on Thursday -- the day they're open until 8 pm. I still need to try and make reservations for Fifteen(www.fifteenrestaurant.com/fifteen/index.html), 'cause I'm a silly Naked Chef fan. That's it, that's all I've figured out. I spent 1/2 of the morning trying to decide if it's worth buying a London Pass (www.londonpass.com). Such a pain to figure out. I think I'll probably get a 2 or 3 day pass. It does look like it might be worth that, but a lot of the offers are for things that are closed during the winter, or special exhibits at museums (I think I'll have plenty to see sticking to regular exhibits) so it wouldn't make sense to get a weekly pass. But I'll have to reconsider once I've made more concrete plans.
The other thing I need to figure out is whether I have time for/want to take a day trip to another city. I'm thinking Oxford or Cambridge. For a while I was really hoping to do some hiking and see the White Horse of Uffington (www.mysteriousbritain.co.uk/majorsites/uffington.html) and some of the hill forts along the Ridgeway trail, but I don't think it's too close to any railstation, so I think that's going to wait for another trip (how about in the summertime?) .
